You can delete your Walksy account, and the data that goes with it, at any time: in the app, or by writing to us if you no longer have the app. Walksy is run by Osema Fadhel.
In the app
- Open Walksy and go to Profile.
- Tap Settings, the gear at the top right.
- Tap Delete account, then Delete My Account.
- Confirm that it is you: enter your password, or sign in again with Google or Apple.
- Tap DELETE PERMANENTLY.
Your account is deleted straight away. It cannot be undone.
Without the app
Write to [email protected] from the email address you use for Walksy, and ask us to delete your account. You do not need to install the app again.
- We reply to that address, to check that the request comes from you. Nobody can delete your account by writing in your name.
- Once you confirm, we delete your account within 30 days, and tell you when it is done.
- If you no longer have that address, write from another one and tell us your username. We will find another way to check that it is you.
What is deleted
- your sign-in account, your profile and your username;
- your follows, in both directions;
- your place in the hikes you joined, with your tracks and walked lines;
- your direct chats, with their messages;
- your posts, with their comments, likes and photos;
- the comments and likes you left on other people’s posts;
- your messages in group chats: they are emptied, and the chat shows a deleted message in their place;
- your live position, your live-share links and your reports on trail conditions;
- your feed, your notifications and your blocks, in both directions;
- the trails you created;
- your stored files;
- the records we keep about you to prevent abuse of the service;
- your moderation records, except the cases we keep as described below.
What stays, for now
- Your name in the lines a group chat writes about a walk (for example, that you set off) and in the record of a removal vote.
- Other people’s notifications that mention you stay until they expire, within 30 days.
- Moderation cases about you are kept for 12 months after they close, with the copy of the reported content they hold.
If you want any of these removed now, write to [email protected] and we will deal with it as an erasure request (Art. 17 GDPR).
Delete some of your data, and keep your account
You can delete these yourself, in the app, at any time:
| What | How |
|---|---|
| A post | Tap ⋯ on the post, then Delete post. Its photos, comments and likes are deleted with it, and it leaves your followers’ feeds. The walk itself stays in your hikes. |
| A photo in a post | Edit the post and tap Remove photo. |
| A comment you wrote | Tap ⋯ next to it, then Delete comment. |
| A chat message you sent | Hold it down, then tap Delete message. It is removed for everyone, and the chat shows that a message was deleted. |
| Your city, on your profile | In Settings › Account, turn off Show your city on your profile. Only you see it after that. |
| Usage statistics and crash reports | In Settings › Privacy, turn off Usage statistics and Crash and performance reports. What is still on your phone is deleted at once. Usage statistics already sent are kept for 2 months, crash reports for up to 90 days. |
To delete anything else, such as the track of a walk or a trail you created, write to [email protected] from the email address you use for Walksy and tell us what to delete. We check that the request comes from you, delete it within 30 days, and treat it as an erasure request (Art. 17 GDPR).
Backups
Deleted data can stay in our backups, and among deleted files, for up to 7 days, and in our sign-in service’s backups for up to 180 days. After that it is gone.
The waitlist
Deleting your account does not touch the waitlist, which is kept separately. To leave the waitlist, write to [email protected].
The privacy policy explains the rest of what we do with your data.
